About the place -

A cluster of 7 mysteriously  inter-connected freshwater lakes, known as Sattal is located in the Nainital district of Kumaon region. Sattal is located amidst dense forest of Oak and Pine trees, at an altitude of 1,370 meters above sea level​. This woodland is located in the lap of mighty Himalayas and is a great place for birding. A quaint and peaceful forest is extremely rich in wildlife and over 300 species of birds can be spotted here, most of them are migratory birds which in winter migrate to lower Himalayas. If you are an avid birder and photographer, Sattal is an ideal place for you.

​Chopta is a small region of meadows and evergreen forest area which is a part of kedarnath wildlife sanctuary located in Uttarakhand state, India. Because of an abundance of birds, Chopta is becoming popular among birdwatchers.​ It is home to more than 550 species of birds and 120 species of big mammals. Some very famous birds like Himalayan Monal, Snow Patridge, Bearded Vulture, Laughing Thrush are spotted here.


Tour Itinerary

Itinerary - 

Saturday, 4th January 2020 -

  • ​Reach Delhi by 20:00 Hrs
  • Travel to Kathgodam by 15013 Ranikhet Express at 22:05 Hrs

Day 1 -​ Sunday, 5th January 2020 -​

  • Reach Kathgodam by 5:05 Hrs
  • Pick up from Kathgodam railway station to Hotel 
  • Check in and Freshen up
  • Birding around Sattal road side (~2 Hrs), Breakfast 
  • Birding inside Sattal forest 
  • Lunch at Hotel and take rest for couple of hrs. 
  • Evening birding session start from 14:00 Hrs around Chafi river
  • Dinner and retire for the day

Day 2 - â€‹Monday​, 6th January 2020 -

  • Early morning session of hide photography
  • Post breakfast, check out and travel for Chopta / Mandal (~8 Hrs Journey) 
  • Birding, Lunch on the way and reach in the evening by 21:00 Hrs
  • Dinner and retire for the day

Day 3rd -​ Tuesday, 7th January 2020 -​

  • Birding in Mandal in the heart of Himalayas, landscape photography of Himalayas
  • Cover whole village, forestRiver and valleys for bird photography
  • Lunch and dinner will be at hotel

Day 4 - â€‹Wednesday​, 8th January 2020 -

  • Explore Mandal and forest areas by taxi and 2 kms of walk
  • Breakfast and lunch will be in the hotel. 
  • Travel to Chopta and reach by 18:00 Hrs 

Day 5 - â€‹Thursday, 9th January 2020 -​

  • Explore Bhulkund and all the roadside areas or trek's .
  • Full Day Birding around Makku village, Siyari villageDugalbitta or Makku village OR 
  • Tungnath and Chandrasila trek (4 kms) for some specialhigh altitude birds.

Day 6 - â€‹Friday​, 10th January 2020 -

  • Early Morning checkout from the hotel 
  • Travel towards Sattal and birding along road side
  • Lunch on the way
  • Reach Sattal for overnight stay (8 hrs. Journey)


Day 7 - â€‹Saturday, 11th January 2020 -​

  • Morning Tea
  • Session of hide photography
  • Breakfast, cover entire Sattal region
  • Lunch and checkout from hotel 
  • Evening birding trail and drop to Kathgodam railway station at 18:00 hrs.
  • Travel to Delhi by 15014 Ranikhet Express at 20:35 Hrs

Sunday - 12th January 2020 -

  • Reach Delhi by 4:30 Hrs
  • Travel to your respective destination.

Rules to be followed
Few rules we would like people follow - 


  • Respect Forest Guides and gypsy drivers and follow their instructions.
  • Do not get down from your gypsy inside the reserved forest.
  • Making loud noise and playing music in the forest is not allowed.
  • Do not try to touch or feed wild animals.
  • Keep safe distance from the wild animals and keep them their space.
  • Do not use camera flash while clicking photographs of wild animals and birds.
  • Do not litter. Keep the area clean. Carry chocolate wrappers, plastic covers, paper and other waste with you and dump it in the dustbin.
