About the place -

Minkiani Pass, one of the less traveled pass is an amazing place situated on the north west of Mcleodganj and is known for its lush green, awe-inspiring scenic views, and serenity. Though it is not situated at a very high range compared to other peaks, this splendid place offers trekking and climbing opportunities to all the visitors and thus makes an ideal spot for trekking around Dharmashala. The entire trek route passes though the beautiful forest, rural villages, huge boulders and along the river side. Kareri Lake is situated at the foothills of the Minkiani pass.

The panoramic views of Dhauladhar and other high Himalayan peaks are the attraction of this astounding trek.


Tour Itinerary

Itinerary - 


Day 1: Reach Mcleodganj in the morning, Check in at the hotel, Freshen up, Lunch and Acclimatization walk towards Bhagsu Waterfall and visit Monasteries.


Day 2: Mcleodganj to Kareri Village (12 km trek, 2100 mtrs / 6800 feet)

The Trek goes through the pine forests and crosses several tribal villages on the way. Kareri is a Gaddi tribal village. Overnight in Tents.


Day 3: Kareri Village to Kareri Lake (13 km trek, 3300 mtrs / 10800 feet)
Trail goes through mixed forests of oak, rhododendron and pine. First 2 Km is a level walk and then there is sleep ascent along Kareri Nullah Stream which has to be crossed over a number of times over improvised wooden bridges. Overnight in Tent


Day 4: Trek from Kareri Lake to Minkiani pass and back (14km trek, 4250 mtrs / 13950 feet)
Start early today to reach the summit of Minkiani Pass. the route passes through huge boulders. Today you have to walk on the snow. Get mesmerized with the beautiful views of Dhauladhar Mountain Range, enjoy in the snow and back to the campsite near Kareri Lake.


Day 5: Trek from Kareri Lake to Kareri Village (13 km trek, 2100 mtrs / 6800 feet)
We take teh same route as Day 3


Day 6: Trek from Kareri Village to Mcleodganj (15 km trek, 1750 mtrs / 5740 feet)

After experiencing our first night under the stars, we continue ascending on a gradual trail passing through many charming villages, passing beautiful open meadows and pine forests on the way. nstead taking the same route, today we take a short descent to the mountain stream to stop for lunch, then ascend sharply afterwards to Bal village and then to Mcleodganj.



Day 7: Sightseeing around Dharmshala and overnight travel to Delhi
Today is a lazy day. Wake up by 7:30 am, freshen up and have breakfast. Pack your luggage and check out from the hotel. Travel around Dharmashala and Mcleodganj for sightseeing. Visit ancient temples and Kangra Fort. Drop at the bus station and then travel to Delhi by Volvo Bus.

  • Any additional Expenses caused by reason beyond our control such as Natural Calamities (Land Slides, Floods etc.), any accidents, medical evacuations, riots, strikes, evacuation costs etc.
  • Any tips, and any meals apart from the ones mentioned above.

Rules to be followed

Few Rules we would like people follow -


  • Consumption of alcohol, smoking, drugs, narcotics is strictly now allowed and would lead to expulsion from the trek.
  • Leader's decision will be final and binding to all members. No arguments will be entertained.
  • Each member is responsible for their own safety and baggage.
  • Please do not wear any jewellery or gold ornaments.
  • Please do not litter. Do not throw plastic, paper, wrappers, bottles etc. Carry them home to throw in the dustbin.
  • We strongly believe in saying - Wherever we go, leave only footprints and take back only memories.

All travelers are advised to purchase travel insurance that provide care and services for sickness, Accidents, emergency rescue, ted. Related to international travel. Any organizer of Owlet Outdoors shall not be responsible for the loss of personal assets and belongings of the travelers due to unavoidable reason or mishap.

Caution & Remarks :
  • Even though participants do not need to submit any health certificates those with a history of medical problems, particularly cardiac or respiratory, should consult a doctor before deciding to undertake the trip.
  • Carry appropriate substitution drugs for individuals allergic to any of above
  • Avoid medication such as sleeping tablets, sedatives, strong painkillers, and anti histamines which depress the respiration and increase the risk of (AMS-Active Mountain Sickness) especially while sleeping
