About the place -


Velas is one of the coastal village at the northen most boundery in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, India. Every year, Olive Ridley Turtles come and lay their eggs on the coast of Velas. To protect this endangered turtle species, an NGO - Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra started conservation in Maharashtra. Their volunteers protect turtle nests and eggs and hatchlings are safely released in the sea during this festival. Tourists get to witness the release of baby turtles. The purpose of this festival is to spread awareness among tourists and villagers.

Bankot fort is situated on a hill overlooking the place where Savitri River meets the Arabian sea in turn to protect the ancient trade route.

Friday

Mumbai Participants: Meet at Sanjay Gandhi National Park Main gate at 22.00 Hrs


Saturday

  • Overnight travel and reach Velas by 5:30 am
  • Freshen up and proceed to Velas Beach for Turtle Festival
  • Have Breakfast and Visit Bankot fort
  • Explore the fort and enjoy the panorama view of Savitri River
  • Enjoy the local flavor Veg Lunch and rest
  • Visit Velas Beach in the evening to see Turtle hatchlings and enjoy Sunset
  • Enjoy group Games and shares travel experiences
  • Dinner and retire for the day


Sunday

  • Wake up early by 5:30 am and freshen up
  • Visit Velas Beach to see Turtle Hatchlings
  • Post Breakfast proceed towards Harihareshwar
  • Enjoy the short Jetty ride en route Harihareshwar
  • visit Harihareshwar Temple and Beach
  • Have lunch (veg / Non veg lunch to be paid by participants)
  • Start return journey to Mumbai

Few Rules we would like people follow -


  • Consumption of alcohol, smoking, drugs, narcotics is strictly now allowed and would lead to expulsion from the trek.
  • Leader's decision will be final and binding to all members. No arguments will be entertained.
  • Each member is responsible for their own safety and baggage.
  • Please do not wear any jewellery or gold ornaments.
  • Please do not litter. Do not throw plastic, paper, wrappers, bottles etc. Carry them home to throw in the dustbin.
  • We strongly believe in saying - Wherever we go, leave only footprints and take back only memories.
