About the place -

Matheran
, situated on the range of Western Ghats at the height of 800 Meters (2625 feet), 
is a most famous Hill Station situated in Karjat Tahsil, Raigad District of Maharashtra
. 
Matheran has a reasonably dense forest cover and thus the name derived. T
he name Matheran means either Forest on Top or Woodland overhead. 
Matheran as a Hill Station was discovered by a British, Mr. Huge Mallet, the then Collector of Thane, in 1850. 


Matheran is an eco-sensitive region, declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India. It is one of the few places in the world where vehicles are not allowed, which makes the place different 
and peaceful
from others. There are 
around 38
 lookout points that provide spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys
 including One Tree Hill Point
.

Sunday, 7th July 2019


Mumbai People - Meet at Dadar Railway Station at Platform 4 (Central railway) at 6:15 am sharp. Board the Karjat Fast Train and reach Karjat by 8:00 am. 

Pune People - Board Sinhgad Express at 6:00 am from Pune and reach Karjat at 8:00 am

  • Breakfast at Karjat
  • Travel by private jeep / Tumtum till base village
  • Introduction and Instructions
  • Start the trek by 9:30 am
  • Reach One Tree Hill Point by 12:00 noon
  • Walk to Matheran Market through the evergreen forest
  • Lunch at Matheran Market
  • Walk firther till Dasturi Naka and have Tea
  • Travel to Neral Railway Station by shared jeep
  • Reach Mumbai by 8:00 pm (Tentative)

Things to be carried
Here is a list of all the things that needs to be carried for the trek - 

  • A haversack to put in everything to be carried
  • Water 2 liters at least
  • Lunch for the day
  • Torch with extra batteries
  • Rain cheaters, Extra pair of clothes, Napkin, 
  • Plastic bags to wrap all your stuff
  • Camera and something to munch on (Optional)
  • Personal medicines required if any
  • Identity Proof
Rules to be followed
Few Rules we would like people follow -


  • Consumption of alcohol, smoking, drugs, narcotics is strictly now allowed and would lead to expulsion from the trek.
  • Leader's decision will be final and binding to all members. No arguments will be entertained.
  • Each member is responsible for their own safety and baggage.
  • Please do not wear any jewellery or gold ornaments.
  • Please do not litter. Do not throw plastic, paper, wrappers, bottles etc. Carry them home to throw in the dustbin.
  • We strongly believe in saying - Wherever we go, leave only footprints and take back only memories.
Other Info
It is advisable to wear full sleeve clothes and comfortable trekking shoes.

Hiking / Trekking / Rock climbing is an adventurous activity and accidents can happen in spite of taking utmost caution and care. The organization will not be responsible for any injury / accident / death to the participant while on trek.
