About the place -

Ratangad, also known as the Jewel of Forts is located in the Bhandardara region. The view of Katra cliffs, Kalsubai Mountain Range and backwaters of the Wilson dam from atop the fort is just breathtaking. The fort has three enyrance doirs - Ganesh Darwaja, Konkan Darwaja and Tryambak Darwaja. One has to climb a ladder to Ganesh Darwaja as the rock cut steps were destroyed by Britishers. Trimbak Darwaja is a marvelous piece of architecture, carved in a single rock. Nedhe (Naturally formed Needle Hole) is a good place to enjoy Sunset. Ratangad is a source of river Pravara. Khutta pinnacle, Kalsubai peak, forts like Alang, Madan , Kulang, Pabargad and Ajoba mountain etc can be seen from top. Post monsoon, the area is covered with variety of wild flowers, specially Sonki.

Wednesday, 2nd Oct 2024 (Gandhi Jayanti) -

  • Meet at Dadar Railway Station at 12 am sharp
  • Board Local Train to Kasara ar 12:30 am
  • Reach Kasara by 3:00 am
  • Travel towards Ratangad by private non Ac vehicle
  • Reach Samrad village by 6:00 am
  • Freshen up and have Breakfast
  • Start the trek by 7:00 am
  • Reach Tryambak Darwaja by 9:30 am
  • Explore the fort
  • Lunch in the Cave and rest
  • Start descend via Ganesh Darwaja by 1:30 pm
  • Reach Ratanwadi by 3:30 pm
  • Tea and snacks
  • Visit Amruteshwar Temple
  • Start Travel back to Mumbai by 4:00 pm
  • Reach Mumbai by 9:00 pm

Things to be carried
Here is a list of all the things that needs to be carried for the trek - 

  • A haversack to put in everything to be carried
  • Water 2 liters at least
  • Steel Plate, Mug, Spoon
  • Torch with extra batteries
  • Rain cheaters, Extra pair of clothes, Napkin, 
  • Plastic bags to wrap all your stuff
  • Camera and something to munch on (Optional)
  • Personal medicines required if any
  • Identity Proof
Rules to be followed
Few Rules we would like people follow -


  • Consumption of alcohol, smoking, drugs, narcotics is strictly not allowed and would lead to expulsion from the trek.
  • Leader's decision will be final and binding to all members. No arguments will be entertained.
  • Each member is responsible for their own safety and baggage.
  • Please do not wear any jewellery or gold ornaments.
  • Please do not litter. Do not throw plastic, paper, wrappers, bottles etc. Carry them home to throw in the dustbin.
  • We strongly believe in saying - Wherever we go, leave only footprints and take back only memories.
