About the place -
In the mountain range of Kalsubai near Bhandardara region of Nasik, Maharashtra stands a massive trio of Forts known as Alang, Madan and Kulang. Popularly known as 'A-M-K' among trekkers is known as the toughest trek in Sahyadries which require technical knowledge of rock climbing and rappelling, climbing gears and high endurance. The top gives an amazing view of Ghatghar and Bhandardara backwaters, Tryambak abd Harishchnadragad Mountain Ranges.
Alang Fort: The majestic Alang Fort lies in the Nashik region & is a part of the Kalsubai range. We would be ascending the fort from Udadavane or Ghatghar village, the route involves climbing a 20 feet rock patch to get to the broken entry door of the fort, from here starts the longest traverse in the Sahyadris to get to the caves. The top of the fort has 11 water cisterns arranged in a Cascade formation a Shiva temple & a dilapidated storage room. View from the top of Kalsubai Mountain Range and surrounding region is amazing.
Madan Fort: The elusive fort of Madan has got a beautiful set of rock cut stairs that one needs to carefully negotiate to get to the top. The British knowing the strategic importance of these forts blew up a part of the route to make ascending the fort difficult. One has to negotiate a traverse with a deadly exposure & also climb a 40 feet rock wall using climbing gears. The top of the fort has a cave & a couple of water cisterns. The view of the horseshoe shaped Alang and Kulang Forts from Madan Fort is a beautiful sight
